Blake had his first soccer practice last night. He's really been looking forward to soccer and we almost missed the sign-up! I don't even want to imagine the devastation it would have caused had we missed the boat. Some of these pics may be hard to see unless you click on them. Last year, soccer was the first team sport he'd ever tried. He didn't have a clue what was going on. We weren't really sure he cared either but, you know, he was only four. Now he's FIVE. Big difference. Now he's actually answering questions - although he doesn't get them all right - when his coach asks questions. The coach asked last night "if the ball goes out of bounds do you still play it?" Blake says proudly, "Yes!" Of course, the coach corrects him and says that the ball is out of play and you have to throw it back in bounds. I bet Blake wishes he knew that rule last year. In one of the last games of the year, the ball was kicked out of bounds and Blake, finally getting the idea late in the season, takes off for it and kicks it all by himself, around the two benches, through another field and back into bounds towards our goal. By this time the referee has stopped blowing his whistle trying to stop him and he's headed towards the goal. We'd never seen such determination in his face. He was so aloof ALL season until this moment. He approached the goal and you saw his little foot take a big swing and (even though we knew it wouldn't really count anyway) we held our breath....and he shanked it. Man, that was good stuff.

I remember you telling that story back when it happened. It is MY FAVORITE and even gave me goosebumps reading it today. He is such awesome kid. Ashley too.
god love him for trying. bless his little heart, he SHANKED it one on no one. Seems he's got the hang of it now! Watch out, he might just be the star this time around. :)
